Parenting And Child Abuse
As a child I have often had the displeasure of being beaten by my parents for many things ranging from poor grades to breaking cutlery, to hitting a sibling etc. Of course, I was never beaten black and blue but the pain sometimes lasted for a day or two.
Often I wondered if other children in my class were subjected to this kind of torture and of course growing up made me realize that beating their child, is one of the most famous and common ways of disciplining that parents often adopt.
However, increasingly I have noticed that child abuse is becoming more common than what one would have liked thus leaving many children as victims for life. The cuts and bruises will dry up and go away however the physiological damage scars do not go away.
There are many effects that are noticed when the child grows up by which time, it is too late to correct them or negate their influence on the adult’s life.
Some children turn up rather hostile and aggressive to be able to be able to beat up the inferiority complex that develops within them due to child abuse. Some other kids turn out quiet and under stated and prefer to stay away from the limelight at all times. They develop such a strong sense of loss and low self confidence that life for them is just another mundane thing which they need to live through without much to achieve.
But both these kinds of attitudes can lead to situations like broken relationships in life, constant fear of the unknown, scare to commit and many other failures. One of the biggest fall outs of an abused childhood is the scare to commit and trust anybody else in life.
Where a lot of us go wrong is treating parenthood like “work”. We have to remember that child rearing is completely different from working on a new hr software UK. What we need is a gentle touch with the right dose of being firm when it comes to our children.
What we give our children today will live in their minds, hearts and lives forever and in turn impact the generations that will inhabit this planet. Let us together create a world free of doubt, if not violence.
