Tips to teach children how to respect

Respect is something that everyone wants and at times demand. We are in a world where everybody things that the world is all about them. The world is going in a direction where the word respect is slowly losing its meaning. When I look at my 10 year old son who at times really needs some education on respect, I wonder was it not just some time back that he was a little baby and I used to read underjams review and other baby product reviews to shop for him. Now he is growing so fast and teaching him basic respect becomes a trouble at times.

In America, character education is available in most schools. This is a good way to teach kids various kinds of good character traits. The first place to start from is your own home and from there on it continues. The character education teaches the kids various character aspects. It talks about how to be fair, responsible, trustworthy, respectful and much more.

There are six key areas of respect:

1. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

2. Don’t come to a conclusion about people before you know them personally.

3. Be a good listener.

4. Don’t call people by nick names that make them feel bad.

5. Don’t pick on people and bully them.

6. Be polite and courteous.

There are many ways to teach children to respect; one of the ways is to be a model to your children. If you show partiality on the basis of racial difference, you can expect your kids to inculcate the same habit. You need to start teaching your children when they are young. You can start by teaching them to take care of their belongings and toys. We need to teach our kids to compliment and to respect others. Introduce your kids to different culture and people group, their food, dance, music etc this way they will accept people of all kinds and respect their culture. We need to teach our kids to say “no” to unaccepted behaviors and addiction like drugs, smoking etc. Respect is undisputable so let’s respect and teach respect.
