Kids Activities: How to Entertain Them

While a lot of kids are being carted off to summer camps, dance lessons, karate lessons and more, you’re kids are complaining there’s nothing to do. You’ve decided that either you can’t afford this type of kids activities or you don’t want to drag your children all over the city to entertain them. So how do you keep them occupied at home? Well one idea is to create your own summer camp. Have the kids help out in creating a them, like science or history or art. Then create ideas for field trips, games, fun time, crafts, meals and other camp-like things for the week.

Think back to when you went to camp or the movies you’ve seen about summer camp. Plan out the schedule for the week. What time will camp start? Set times for activities, meals and down time. You can plan one or two field trips during the week, designate days for these. Let the kids decorate their doors to their rooms or even the rooms themselves as their cabins with banners and signs. Turn off the television during “camp” hours and focus solely on the activity at hand. One of the crafts could be creating camp t-shirts. Grab some blank t-shirts and some fabric paint and write the name of the camp on the shirt then let the kids decorate it however they want.

Great field trip ideas should be presented by the kids. You can help make suggestions for swimming, hiking, or even a local amusement park. Maybe research some great local museums or parks that you don’t normally explore. Camp can be a way to find great local areas to explore that you may have forgotten about or maybe you didn’t even know about. Get online or go to the local library and find some neat places to investigate.
