2. Once you have purchased your kit, you will scrape the inside of your cheek with the buccal swab provided in kit. You will need to swab the child’s cheek as well. In some cases, it is even necessary to swab the inside of the mother’s cheek as well, but this will be indicated.
3. After you have collected the DNA, you will send the samples to the company’s lab in the self addressed envelope they provide for you in the kit. Typically, you will wait anywhere from a few days to a week for results but this depends on the lab. Results can be received by phone, email, express mail or even fax depending on what you ask for.
That is how easy it is to take your own DNA & Paternity test. The only problem with these home kits is they are for personal use only and will not stand up in a court of law. For cases that require a DNA & Paternity test, it is advised to go to your local lab and get it done professionally.
